Dr. Sourav Das, a current postdoc fellow at the School of the Environment, received the 2023 Faculty of Arts & Science Postdoctoral Fellowship Award. He will receive full funding for up to 2 years. As part of the fellowship, Dr. Das will be characterizing the oxidative potential of inorganic and organic constituents in road dust; particles which originate from asphalt surfaces and automotive parts such as brake linings and tires, as well as other sources. Planned work involving the application of different chemical assay techniques to assess the role of various road dust contaminants in inducing the generation of reactive oxygen species in the human lung will help support an improved understanding of the toxic potential of road dust particles following inhalation.
